Redwoods

Just twelve miles or so north of the Golden Gate bridge lies Muir Woods - a preserved area of Redwood forrest. Me and Maja spent a wonderful day there. While the trees we saw don't reach the maximum of the species, 80 meter is still rather spectacular in my book.

The air is misty and humid - a prerequisite for the tall trees - but we were in luck and went there a sunny day. The light was fantastic. Filtered through all that chlorophyll so far away it sifted down like a soft dew. There was not much undergrowth - except in the places were the trees had left gaps - and what little was there consisted mostly of ferns. The terrain was rugged, and and some places we could climb high enough to see the crowns of the trees below. In all - spectacular.
We also visited the underwater glass tunnels of San Francisco aquarium. The shoal of anchovy was probably the one thing that impressed me most.
